Fiat 128

I could imagine that there are lots of people who don't have the slightest idea what is a Fiat 128, anyway. Well, on the photo below you can see one.

What ?? Looks like a Lada ?? Ok, there are certain similarities. The cause is that the Russians once began to produce Fiats under license. Furthermore the Lada is not a copy of the 128 but of the larger 124.

In every case you should look at its progressive construction : front engine and front drive, the complete technique put in the front part so that the long rest of the car is at full disposal to passengers and luggage.
Sounds quite common ???? That's right, but I am talking about the year 1969. Who might think of what you got as a customer of Volkswagen at that time, will surely stop laughing at once...with this cars the compact cars began to become as we know them today.

The car was available as 2- and 4-door sedan and as station wagon. From 1972 there was also a coupe with the same technical parts underneath, but with an own carossery and interior. This coupe was replaced in 1975 by the 3P which was much more practical by its large rear door. This type was built until 1979.
The sedan received a facelift and was further constructed until 1981. Overall there where 2700000 sedans and station wagons and 330000 coupes and 3Ps built, not taking in count its license constructions from Spain, Egypt, Argentina and a lot of other countries.
